CREATIVE JOURNALING — 30 DAYS — 30 PROMPTS

1st — 30th April
£30

Over the coming days our usual routines and activities are going to change considerably.   Creative journaling is based on the activity of keeping a writing journal and will help us to make sense of a smaller and more focused world, and to keep us going when we might not have as much access to stimuli and events as we did previously.   All you need is a notebook with at least 30 pages in it and a good pen!   Every day you will receive a prompt by e-mail which will focus on different journaling techniques and writing styles to record the world around you.   At the end of the 30 days you should have a notebook brimming with ideas for future writing which will hopefully keep you busy and focused during these unsettled times.   Please note the fee does not include feedback on any of the writing/journal entries produced.

Although the month assigned for these daily prompts is over, lockdown and our changed lives continues.   If you would like a PDF of all the prompts and handouts to work with in your own time, please contact Sue.   The price is the same as above (£30).

Via e-mail

20th—30th June 2020
Fee £40

In this course you will receive an e-mail prompt every day for 10 days designed to help trigger memories and associations.   The prompts will include suggestions of different and innovative approaches to record your memories in order to produce vivid and engaging pieces of writing.   Although the prompts are primarily for prose writing, they could be adapted to produce poetic memoir.   Participants will receive feedback on writing inspired by the course up to a limit of 4,000 words, to be submitted by 14th July 2020.   At a rough estimate, it would take up to an hour a day to respond to the prompt plus around 4-6 hours to write and edit your piece(s) for submission.

CREATIVE JOURNALING: NATURE/ECO WRITING

4th August 2020 – 27th July 2021
Fee £65

You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming… Pablo Neruda

All you need is a notebook, a pen and access to e-mails.   Every Tuesday for a year you will receive a prompt in your box which will encourage you to explore nature in original and innovative ways.   There will be links to nature writers and nature poets to launch your ideas some weeks, other weeks there will be the option of getting out and about.   It doesn’t matter where you live — urban nature/eco writing is also important and all the prompts can be done from a garden or a window or in your imagination.   Some of the prompts will explore the climate crisis and rare/extinct species, others will be a celebration of the familiar things around us.   Some of your journal entries may lead to the creation of longer, more polished pieces of creative non-fiction, flash fiction or poetry.

Please note there is no feedback on your journal entries although you may want to use my mentoring service for any longer pieces which arise.   The course starts and finishes during the annual Butterfly Big Count, which feels auspicious!
